
Consumer Privacy Notice
This Consumer Privacy Notice explains how Akteena Inc. ("Akteena," "we," "us," or "our") handles personal information in connection with the Akteena consumer companion mobile application for iPhone and Android (the "App"), which pairs with the Akteena consumer dashboard camera (the "Camera"). Our Commitment to Privacy
We designed the App around data minimization. We collect only what we need to sign you in and operate the App, and your Camera recordings stay on your Camera.
What the App Does Not Do
To be clear about our approach, the App does not:
- Upload your Camera recordings to the cloud. Recordings remain on your Camera's storage. If you choose to download a recording or photo, it is saved to your phone, and we do not receive it.
- Collect your geographic location, GPS coordinates, or movement history.
- Show advertising, or use advertising or cross-app tracking technologies.
- Sell or share your personal information.
- Use your personal information to train artificial intelligence or machine learning models.
- Collect your contacts, calendar, browsing history, search history, financial information, or health information.

We do not collect "sensitive personal information" as defined under applicable U.S. state privacy laws. We retain account information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward as needed to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements; diagnostic and usage data is retained only as long as needed for the purposes above.
How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to authenticate you, validate your license, operate and improve the App, provide support, and protect against fraud and security threats. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or to train AI or machine-learning models.
How the App Communicates
When the App is connected to your Camera, it communicates with the Camera over your phone's local wireless link. This communication does not pass through Akteena's servers or the internet. The App contacts Akteena's servers only to sign you in and to validate your license.
App Permissions
The App requests these device permissions, each for a specific purpose:
- Location — Required by iOS and Android as a prerequisite for an app to recognize the wireless network your phone is connected to. The App uses this only to confirm that you are connected to your Camera. We do not collect or store your geographic location.
- Local Network (iOS) / Nearby devices (Android) — Required for the App to communicate with your Camera over the local wireless link.
- Photos / Media library — Requested only when you choose to save a downloaded recording or photo to your phone.
- Camera — Not requested. Recordings come from the Camera, not your phone's camera.
Third-Party Services
We use a small number of third-party services, each for a single purpose:
- We use Auth0 (an Okta service) to sign you in. Auth0 receives the email and name you provide at sign-in.
- The App is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play, which provide platform-managed crash reporting. We do not receive user-identifying information from these platforms.
We do not use advertising, attribution, or behavioral-tracking software in the App. We may use a limited diagnostics and product-analytics service to understand crashes and general usage; if we do, it is configured not to be used for advertising and not to track you across other apps or services.
Your Rights and Choices
You can:
- Delete your account. You may delete your account from within the App, or by emailing privacy@akteena.com from the address associated with your account. When you delete your account, we delete your account information, except where we are required to retain certain information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
- Access or correct your information. Email privacy@akteena.com to request a copy of, or a correction to, the personal information we hold about you.
- Sign out at any time from the App's profile screen, which clears your sign-in session on the device.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights:
California residents. You have the right to know, access, delete, and correct your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not collect sensitive personal information. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request, subject to verification.
Other U.S. state residents. Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws (including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, and others) have rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of their personal information, where applicable. To exercise these rights, contact privacy@akteena.com.
Canadian residents. You may request access to and correction of your personal information, and may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
To exercise any right, email privacy@akteena.com. We will respond as required by applicable law.
Data Security
We use industry-standard transport encryption for communications between the App and our servers and our sign-in provider, and we store sign-in credentials in your operating system's secure storage. Your account information is never written to the Camera. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International Processing
Akteena is established in the United States, and your information is processed in the United States and in other countries where we and our service providers operate. Where required by applicable law, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact privacy@akteena.com and we will delete it.
Changes to This Notice
We may update this Notice from time to time. If we make a material change, we will update the effective date below and, where required by law, provide additional notice through the App.
